How to Calm Anxiety Without Losing Control

Anxiety isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s your nervous system trying to protect you — just in a very loud way.

One of my clients, Bilal, came to me feeling overwhelmed by overthinking. He was about to get married and couldn’t stop imagining worst-case scenarios. Here’s how we helped him manage his anxiety through faith and practical tools:

1. Name it to Tame it

Anxiety thrives in vagueness. We wrote down what he was actually afraid of. By giving fear a name, we reduced its power.

2. Wudu & Breath Reset

We paired the practice of wudu with intentional deep breathing. Every time Bilal felt panic rise, he’d make wudu, recite “HasbunAllahu wa ni’mal wakeel,” and do slow breathing for 3 minutes.

3. Visualisation through NLP

We used an NLP technique where he imagined the anxious thought as a radio — and turned down the volume mentally. He smiled when he told me, “I now mute my anxiety like I mute my TV!”

➡️ Takeaway: You don’t have to fight anxiety. With the right mindset, you can befriend it and guide it back into balance.
